The 7th edition of the annual Agriculture Students Career Guidance and Mentorship Dialogue (AG-STUD) Bootcamp has commenced in Accra, with about 350 agriculture students and beginner agribusiness participants. The six-day program, running from May 19 to May 24, 2024, focuses on accelerating collective efforts to enable and establish career opportunities for the growing numbers of agri-youth.
Under the theme “Accelerating our efforts in enabling and advancing career opportunities for the agri-youth: Role of the public, private and development partners,” students from various agricultural colleges, farm institutes, and universities across the country are participating to understand the full cycle of the agribusiness value chain and its diverse opportunities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, MP for Korle Klottey Constituency and AG-STUD Bootcamp Patron Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings urged students to embrace agribusiness as a first-choice career, dispelling misconceptions that agriculture is for the poor and uneducated. She emphasized that agriculture is a lucrative business when done well and encouraged participants to seize the opportunities presented by the bootcamp.
Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, represented at the event, commended Agrihouse Foundation for sustaining the initiative for seven years. He highlighted the diverse career opportunities in agriculture, including research, environmental sustainability, financial management, and engineering, urging motivated individuals to enroll in the program.
Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, emphasized the importance of collaboration among public, private, and development partners to empower Ghana’s agri-youth and foster their growth. The bootcamp aims to unlock opportunities for agri-youth, promoting a sustainable and prosperous future in agriculture.
Organized by Agrihouse Foundation, the bootcamp has consistently been a beacon of hope and opportunity for budding agricultural talents. Notably, the 6th edition saw the success of Charlotte Yawa Sodzedo, who received substantial support through the Agromonti Ultimate Prize Pitch. This year’s participants will similarly have opportunities to present their agribusiness ideas to mentors and coaches, developing them into viable businesses.
