- As Ghana Mark’s her 62nd Independence Day anniversary, it was oblige for every region to commorate the celebration.
The theme for the year 2019 Independence Day anniversary was ” *CELEBRATING PEACE AND UNITY* “.
The indigenes of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and Effia-Kwesimtsim Municipal Assembly marked Ghana’s 62nd celebration at the Takoradi Jubilee Park of the western region.
Addressing the dignitaries, traditional rulers, parade contingents, students, teachers and other protocols, the western regional minister Hon Dr. Kweku Afriyie said the theme for the 62nd anniversary was timely because love for one another has waxed cold where intolerance has also crept into society much that citizens don’t see themselves as one people.
According to him Ghana had her independence from the British through a relentless efforts from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. J. B. Danquah, Ako Adjei, Obetsibi Lamptey, Edward Akuffo Addo and William Ofori Atta whom were know as the *Big Six*.
The attainment of Independence would not have been complete without mentioning the afore-mentioned heroes who toiled for Ghana’s freedom from the colonial masters, Hon Dr Afriyie emphasize.
The outgoing western regional minister, touching on the recent kidnapping brouhaha in the Oil City commended the security services for their relentless efforts in tracking down kidnappers of Takoradi kidnap victims.
Moreover he said the Indigenes in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis together with the authorities to be on the lookout and fish out those involved in kidnapping and also work together to bring back the missing girls.
The Sefwi Wiaso Member of Parliament, Hon. Kweku Afriyie said holding each other in dignity will go a long way to knit Ghanaians as one people. He also appealed to Ghanaians to be tolerant by respecting each other’s views and personality.
Hon. Dr. Kweku Afriyie with his last Independence Day celebration address urged the youths in perspective not to allow themselves to be lured into vigilantism but spreading Peace and Unity among every citizen can make a difference in the communities no matter individualism and political affiliations.
Dr. Kweku Afriyie further entreated Ghanaians to emulate the exhibited dedication, commitment and character of the big six to discharge responsibilities as citizens.
The 62nd Ghana’s Independence Day celebration held at Takoradi Jubilee Park was witnessed by the new western regional minister designate, Hon. Kobby Otchere Darko Mensah who double as Member Of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency, heads of western regional security agencies and other protocols observed.
